Advanced cases

The referral end of dentistry.

These are the cases a general practice sends on. They need imaging, often a theatre, sometimes an anaesthetist, and usually more than one speciality. This department is where they stop being referred.

Full mouth rehabilitation

Rebuilding an entire dentition where wear, decay or loss has changed how the jaws meet. Planned as one case rather than as a series of separate repairs, and often carried out over several sittings or in one session under anaesthetic.

Impaction

Surgical removal of teeth trapped in bone, including deep wisdom teeth lying against the nerve, where imaging before surgery decides the approach.

Cysts and tumours

Lesions of the jaw that need surgical removal and a laboratory diagnosis. These are the cases a general practice refers on, because they need theatre, imaging and histopathology.

Jaw lesions

Investigation of changes in the jawbone found on a radiograph or a scan, through to definitive treatment.

Facial trauma

Fractures of the jaw and facial bones, and injuries involving the teeth and soft tissue together. Trauma rarely arrives alone, which is why an emergency department and imaging in the same building matter.

Orthodontic surgeries

Combined orthodontic and surgical treatment where the teeth alone cannot correct the bite, and the jaw position itself has to be changed.

If you have been told it is too complicated, that is the reason to come.

Complicated usually means one of three things: the case needs equipment the clinic does not have, it needs an anaesthetist, or it needs a doctor who is not a dentist. All three are in the building.

Bring whatever you already have. Previous X-rays, a scan on a disc, a letter from another dentist, the name of the medicine you are on. It saves a visit.
